I wasn\u2019t expecting to take this particular photo when I embarked on a tour of the National Cathedral in Washington DC.<\/p>\n

According to the tour guide, there\u2019s only one opportunity each day to capture the sun hitting the stained-glass window just right so that it casts its colors on George Washington\u2019s statue. We had just a few moments to take our photos and soak in the beauty before it was gone.<\/p>\n

I wasn\u2019t expecting to see it, but I won\u2019t forget the stunning imagery.<\/p>\n

This photo captures more than a special moment in time. It\u2019s a reminder that just being present, taking in the scenes around you can create a memory to treasure the rest of your life.<\/p>\n

The reminder is especially true during the holidays. Don\u2019t get too caught up in the preparations or the logistics of pulling together the perfect holiday that you forget to experience the moments that create lasting memories and family stories.<\/p>\n

Steal a few quiet minutes during the busy holiday season by setting a daily alarm on your phone. Pick a ring tone that\u2019s different from the others you use and label it your \u201cBe present reminder.\u201d Even if you can only pause for a few seconds when the alarm sounds, use it as a reminder to take a deep breath, look around and be open to experiencing life\u2019s little moments.<\/p>\n
