I love the festive touches throughout my house. Taking everything down is a little bittersweet because it’s a gentle reminder that the magic of Christmas, my favorite time of the year, must bid farewell until its merry return.

I know for some people it’s downright overwhelming because getting everything back into storage boxes gets trickier and trickier every year. Here are three things you can do to make the process easier…

1. Wind your lights.

You can probably picture the scene from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation where Clark and Rusty inspect a large, tangled ball of lights. A lot of people deal with that on a regular basis, and it causes a lot of frustration.

Purchasing a light reel organizer can solve the problem. Untangling Christmas lights is one of the things people hate most. When you take the time to put them away correctly you’ll save yourself a lot of time and hassle next year.

2. Protect your wreaths.

If you’ve invested in nice wreaths to use year after year, make sure you also invest in a container that will keep them looking as nice as the day you bought them. A lot of people buy the soft-sided cases. Those cases get thrown in the attic and get crushed.

Here’s a better alternative—purchase a hard-sided, plastic case specially designed for wreaths. They’re also great for storing garland.

3. Use ornament storage containers.

The best way to store ornaments is inside cases specifically designed for ornaments. Hard-sided, clear, plastic containers with locking edges and lift-out trays are sturdier and more convenient than soft-sided, cardboard-divided, storage options.

With storage products like these, there’s no need to dread taking down, putting away, and storing seasonal items.
